Feline Sleepy Amigurumi Kitten

This sleepy little kitten is just the right size for cuddling up for a nap during a long car ride. She is knitted in separate parts, sewn together and shaped by simple increases and decreases.

Gauge: 18 sts and 24 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St in MC

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Cascade Yarns Cascade 220 (100% Wool; 220 yards [201 meters]/100 grams): 4002 Jet (MC, 1 ball), 4192 Soft Pink (CC1, 1 ball)

Needles: US size 3 (3.25 mm) DPNs

Notions: Polyester fiberfill, tapestry needle, white cotton embroidery thread, pink cotton embroidery thread, embroidery needle.

This pattern is worked in the round in separate parts which are then sewn together. The Kitten’s bow is made separately and attached at the end.

Head

With MC, CO 3 sts.

Rnd 1: Kfb 3 times, distribute evenly over DPNs and join to work in the rnd. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: Kfb 6 times. (12 sts)

Rnd 3: Kfb 4 times, (kfb, k2, kfb) 2 times. (20 sts)

Rnd 4: Kfb, k6, kfb, (kfb, k4, kfb) 2 times. (26 sts)

Rnd 5: Kfb 2 times, k6, kfb 2 times, k14, kfb 2 times. (32 sts)

Rnd 6: Kfb, k12, kfb 2 times, k16, kfb. (36 sts)

Rnd 7: Knit.
Rnd 8: Kfb, k14, kfb 2 times, k18, kfb. (40 sts)

Rnd 9: K28, kfb 2 times, k10. (42 sts)

Rnd 10: Kfb, k16, kfb, (kfb, k10, kfb) 2 times. (48 sts)

Rnds 11-12: Knit.

Rnd 13: Kfb, k18, kfb, k28. (50 sts)

Note: Stuff the Head now, being sure to push stuffing outward into the nose and sides of the face.

Rnd 27: K2tog, k8, k2tog, (k2tog, k3, k2tog) 2 times. (20 sts)

Rnd 28: K2tog 10 times. (10 sts)

Be sure you are finished stuffing the Head. Cut yarn, use a tapestry needle to thread through remaining sts and pull tight to close the hole. Tie off, concealing ends inside Head.

Ears (make 2)

With MC, CO 4 sts.

Rnd 1: Knit. Distribute evenly over 2 DPNs, and work in the rnd, holding the two needles parallel to each other.

Rnd 2: Kfb 4 times. (8 sts). 

Rnd 3: Knit.

Rnd 4: (K2, m1, k2) 2 times. (10 sts)

Rnd 5: Knit.

Rnd 6: (K2, kfb, k2) 2 times. (12 sts)

Rnd 7: Knit.

Rnd 8: (K3, m1, k3) 2 times. (14 sts)

Rnd 9: Knit.

BO all sts.

Body

With MC, CO 20 sts.

Rnd 1: Knit. Distribute evenly over DPN and work in the round.

Rnds 2-4: Knit.

Rnd 5: (K4, kfb) 4 times. (24 sts)

Rnds 6-15: Knit.

Rnd 16: (K5, kfb) 4 times. (28 sts)

Rnds 17-18: Knit.

Rnd 19: (K6, kfb) 4 times. (32 sts)

Rnds 20-21: Knit.

Rnd 22: K4, (k2, k2tog) 7 times. (25 sts)

Rnd 23: K4, (k1, k2tog) 7 times. (18 sts)

Rnd 24: K1, kfb 2 times, k1, k2tog 7 times. (13 sts)

Note: Start stuffing Body at this point.

Rnd 25: K8, sl1, k2tog, psso, k2. (11 sts)

Rnd 26: K2, kfb 2 times, k2, sl1, k2tog, psso, k2. (11 sts)

Rnd 27: K8, k2tog, k1. (10 sts)

Rnds 28-48: Knit.

Finish stuffing Body and tail, using a knitting needle to push stuffing up into the tail if necessary. Cut yarn, thread through remaining sts and pull tight.

Legs

With MC, CO 3 sts.

Rnd 1: Kfb 3 times. Distribute evenly over DPN and work in the rnd. (6 sts)

Rnd 2: Kfb 6 times. (12 sts)

Rnd 3: (K1, kfb) 6 times. (18 sts)

Rnds 4-8: Knit.

Rnd 9: K3, k2tog 6 times, k3. (12 sts)

Rnd 10: Knit.

Rnd 11: K4, k2tog 2 times, k4. (10 sts)

Rnds 12-20: Knit

Note: Stuff top part of Leg. Rnds 12-20 are the Foot.

Rnd 21: K2tog 5 times. (5 sts)

Finish stuffing Leg and Foot and thread yarn through remaining sts. Pull tight and tie off.

Arms

With MC, CO 3 sts.

Rnd 1: Kfb 3 times. Distribute evenly over DPN and work in the rnd. (6 sts)

Rnd 2: Kfb 6 times. (12 sts)

Rnds 3-18: Knit.

Rnd 19: K2tog 6 times. (6 sts)

Stuff Arm. Thread yarn through remaining sts. Pull tight and tie off.

Bow

With CC, CO 7 sts.

Rows 1-22: Knit.

BO all sts. Cut yarn and set this garter portion aside.

With CC, CO 6 sts.

Distribute evenly over DPN and work in the rnd.

Rnds 1-10: Knit.

BO all sts. This is the tube portion.

Pinch the middle of the garter portion, and wrap the tube around the middle of it, sewing it all together in the back.

Finishing

Sew CO edge of Body to the bottom of Head with tail in the back of Body.

Sew CO edge of Arms to Body at shoulders.

Sew CO edge of Legs to Body at hips in front of the tail.

Embroider a wide “U” shape for eyes and add eyelashes with white embroidery thread. Embroider a triangle for the nose with pink embroidery thread.

Sew the Bow to the Kitten’s head in front of its ear.

  • I’m not sure but I think there is an error /or parts missing in the BODY Instructions ? The most sts according to the pattern is only 32sts!! And then decreases again..? Could you please advise my poor old brain?? Kind regards Joy

      Hi Joy! I checked with the designer and there are no missing parts in the pattern, She wants to know if you may be referring to the fact that the head is wider around than the body, but can assure you once the limbs are attached it all looks right and even.
