Little Bear Ornament

Worked almost entirely in the round, Little Bear is a cute ornament that is quick to make and requires very little finishing. Perfect for the little bear in your life or for your woodland-themed Christmas.

Size: 2.5” / [6 cm] tall, not including hanging loop

Gauge: 28 sts and 36 rows = 4” [10cm] in St st.

Materials

Super fine weight yarnYarn: Knit Picks Palette (100% Peruvian Highland Wool; 231 yards [211 meters]/50 grams): 25994 Brown Sugar (1 ball).

Needles: US size 1 (2.25 mm) DPNs

Notions: Tapestry needle, toy filling, black embroidery thread.

Special Stitches

Icord: *K all sts, slide the sts to the other end of the needle, pull the yarn across the back of the sts; rep from * until desired length.

CO 6 sts and join to work in the rnd being careful not to twist.

Start stuffing.

Rnd 52: *K2, k2tog; rep from * to end. (24 sts)

Rnd 56: *K2tog; rep from * to end. (8 sts)

Finish stuffing, break yarn, thread through the remaining 8 sts, pull tight and secure.

Ears (make 2)

CO 8 sts.

Row 1 (RS): K.

Row 2: P.

Rows 3-4: Rep Rows 1-2.

Row 5: Ssk, k4, k2tog. (6 sts)

Row 6: P.

Row 7: Ssk, k2, k2tog. (4 sts)

Row 8: P.

Row 9: K.

Row 10: P.

Row 11: Kfb, k2, kfb. (6 sts)

Row 12: P.

Row 13: Kfb, k4, kfb. (8 sts)

Row 14: P.

Row 15: K.

Rows 16-17: Rep Rows 14-15.

BO all sts leaving a long tail.

Finishing

Fold the ears in half lengthways, using the long tail sew up both sides of the ears, then sew the ears on to the top of Bear’s Head.

With the black embroidery thread and using the picture as a guide, embroider two eyes and a triangular nose.

Hanging Loop

Pick up and k3 sts on top of Head between Ears, work Icord meas 4” / [10 cm].

BO all sts leaving a long tail.

Fold the Icord in half creating a loop and using the long tail to sew the end of the Icord next to where the sts were picked up.
