25 sts and 24 rows = 4” [10cm] in 4/2 Rib Pattern

Yarn:

Fine weight yarn Plymouth Yarn Galway Sport (100% Highland Wool; 151 yards [138 meters]/50 grams): #732 Denim Heather (MC), 8 (9, 10, 11) balls; #772 Cabernet Heather (CC1), 1 (1, 2, 2) balls; #722 Sand Heather (CC2), 1 (1, 2, 2) balls.

Needles: US size 5 (3.75 mm): straight; US 4(3.5 mm): 24” circular

Notions: Stitch markers; stitch holders (2)

Special Stitches

4/2 Rib Pattern (worked over a multiple of 6 sts)

Row 1 (WS): P2, *k2, p4; rep from * across, ending with k2, p2.

Row 2: K2, *p2, k4; rep from * across, ending with p2, k2.

Rep Rows 1-2 for patt. 

Pattern Notes

To avoid puckering of fabric, carry colors not in use loosely across back work.

Keep 2 sts at each end in MC when working raglan shaping of front and back.

When working the decrease row, work as foll:

Dec Row (RS): K1, ssk, work to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.

Dec Row (WS): P1, p2tog, work to last 3 sts, p2tog tbl, p1.

Back

With MC and larger needle, CO 102 (120, 126, 138) sts.

Work even in 4/2 Rib Pattern for 3”, inc 5 (3, 5, 1) sts evenly on last WS row – 107 (123, 131, 139) sts.

Referring to chart, work even in Color Pattern until Back meas 15 (16, 16, 17)” from CO, ending with WS row.

Begin Raglan Shaping

BO 8 (10, 10, 12) sts at beg of next 2 rows – 91 (103, 111, 115) sts.

(Dec 1 st each end on next 2 row, work 1 row even) 16 (18, 19, 20) times – 27 (31, 35, 35) sts.

Size L only

Work Dec row once more –33 sts.

All Sizes

Work even for 4 (4, 6, 6) rows more – 27 (31, 33, 35) sts.

BO all sts.

Front

Work as for Back until Front meas 3½ (4½, 5½, 6)” above bound-off underarm sts.

Divide for Front Neck Opening

Place center 5 sts on holder.

Working on both sides of Neck with separate balls of yarn, keep Neck edges straight and raglan edges as established for 3” above held sts.

Shape Front Neck

BO 5 (6, 7, 7) sts at each Neck edge.

Dec 1 st at each Neck edge 4 (4 5, 5) times, AT THE SAME TIME complete raglan decs same as for Back.

BO rem 2 (3, 2, 3) sts.

Sleeve (make 2)

With MC and larger needle, CO 60 (72, 78, 78) sts.

Working in 4/2 Rib Pattern, inc 1 st each end every 6th row 15 (15, 16, 18) times – 90 (102, 110, 114) sts.

Work even until Sleeve meas 18 (19, 19½, 20)” from CO, ending with WS row.

Begin Raglan Shaping

BO 8 (10, 10, 12) sts at beg of next 2 rows – 74 (82, 90, 90) sts.

(Dec 1 st each end on next 2 rows, work 1 row even) 16 (18, 19, 20) times – 10 (10, 14, 10) sts.

 

Size L only

Work Dec row once more – 12 sts.

 

All Sizes

Work even for 4 (4 6, 6) rows more – 10 (10, 12, 10) sts.

BO all sts.

Finishing

Assembly

Sew sleeves to Front and Back. Sew sleeve and side seams.

 

I-Cord Neck Band

Beg at lower right neck opening with MC and smaller circular needle, pick up and knit around entire neckline at a ratio of 1 st for every row or st. Place marker in each corner st at top of neck. Cut yarn.

CO 2 sts to RH needle. Sl 2 RH sts from holder to another holder. From first holder k2, ssk (last st on holder and first picked-up st of neck opening).

*Replace 5 sts just worked to LH needle, k4, ssk; rep from * until all picked-up sts have been worked, working 3 unattached rows at each neck marker.

Cut yarn, leaving a 12” tail.

Using Kitchener st, sew band to remaining sts on second holder, overlapping band slightly.
