Sonnet Sweater

Sonnet is a cozy, comfy ribbed sweater that is perfect for end-of-summer weather. Knit in pieces from the bottom up in a casual gray color, this sweater is geared for intermediate knitters and goes with just about anything in your wardrobe.

Medium weight yarnYarn: Brooklyn Tweed Dapple (60% Merino, 40% organic cotton; 165 yards [151 meters]/50 grams): #785 Plinth 6 (6, 6, 7, 8, 9, 9, 10, 11) skeins

Needles: US size 6 (4 mm) 24” or longer circular needles; US size 5 (3.75 mm) 24” or longer circular needles, used for trims.

Notions: Markers, removable markers, stitch holders, waste yarn for provisional cast-on, tapestry needle

Row 1 (RS): K1, *p1, k3, rep from * to last 2 sts, p1, k1.

Row 2 (WS): K1, *k1, p1, sl 1 wyif, p1, rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.

Rep Rows 1-2 for pattern.

Pattern Notes

This garment is worked in pieces from the bottom up. Sleeves are worked from dropped shoulder armholes down. Shoulders and neckline are shaped with short rows. Neck trim is worked from live stitches up.

Rep last 2 rows 2 more times.

Body

Change to larger needle.

Work Rows 1-2 of Puff Rib 46 times or until piece measures 14.5” from CO, ending with a WS row.

Armholes Shaping

On next 2 rows, work in pattern as set to last 2 (5, 5, 5, 7, 8, 10, 14, 15) sts and place these last sts on hold for the underarms. (83 (85, 97, 109, 113, 123, 131, 135, 141) sts)

Adjusting to new st count, cont even in pattern for 42 (42, 48, 52, 56, 56, 60, 62, 64) more rows.

Place neck markers on either side of 47 (49, 53, 57, 59, 61, 63, 65, 69) center sts.

Block Back and Front pieces to measurements.

Seam shoulders using 3-Needle-Bind-Off method.

Neckband

Transfer all live Neck sts onto smaller needle.

Place BOR and facing RS, work in the round.

Rnd 1 (RS): Beg at the center back, k to next shoulder seam, pick up and knit 1 st before seam, 1 st into seam and 1 st after seam, then k to left shoulder seam, pick up and k 1 stitch before seam, 1 st into seam and 1 st after seam, k to end. (100 (104, 112, 120, 124, 128, 132, 136, 144) sts)

Rnd 2: P around. Fasten off.

Sleeves
