Esme Half-Zip Sweater

This project is bound to be the most used sweater in everyone’s handmade wardrobe this season! Utilizing a textured or boucle yarn, a sherpa-like fabric is created. In tandem with clever construction techniques, the finished project will look just like your favorite on-trend fleeces. The sweater is knit top-down yoke-style. Yoke is knit flat for 4-5’’ then joined and knit in the round before dividing for sleeves, leaving a pre-made collar without any steeking required! The zipper is sewn on afterwards and the kangaroo pouch is knit separately then stitched on.

Finishing

Weave in all ends and block to finished measurements. Taking yarn needle and new yarn, whipstitch pocket onto body of sweater, making sure to leave the diagonal side shaping open. Fold the collar in half towards the inside of your sweater placing your zipper between the two layers on either side. You will now have 4’’ of zipper on either side encased in fabric and 5’’ of zipper continuing down behind the divided portion of the sweater front. Taking needle and thread, stitch zipper into place using backstitch. You may clip extra 1’’ of zipper on the bottom after stitching together.
