Nicholas Brioche Plaid Scarf

The main feature of the Nicholas Scarf is the rectangular checks in different shades of blue, with just a little hint of white and red to add color and separate the rows of checks. Being worked in brioche stitch, the scarf is perfectly reversible and the colorwork is made using only one color at a time. Nicholas makes the perfect gift for the city traveler on your list.

Step 3: Pass the first st on your right needle over the second st.

Pattern Notes

This design can be a great first brioche project as it uses only the basic brioche stitches. It is also a good project if you know how to work brioche and want a simple scarf that showcases the cushy stitch and your favorite DK weight yarn.

The pattern used is a simple play with syncopated brioche to simulate a plaid pattern: an easy way to obtain a reversible colorwork with no effort.

It is easy to customize the design, playing with colors or adding or subtracting repeats to obtain a bigger or smaller piece.

Always slip marker when you encounter it if not instructed differently.

Pattern

With Two-color Italian CO and both MC and CC1, CO 35 sts.

To obtain a wider piece it’s possible to add more repeats of the pattern. Each repeat is approx. 4” / [10 cm] wide and is worked on over a multiple of 16 sts, so CO accordingly.

Setup Row 1 (WS): With MC, k1, (sl1yo, k1) 4 times, (sl1yo, p1) 44 times, pm, (sl1yo, k1) 44 times, (sl1yo, p1) 55 times. Slide all the sts to the other side of needle.

Setup Row 2 (RS): With CC1, sl1, *(brp, sl1yo) 4 times, (brk, sl1yo) 4 times; rep from * one more time, brk, sl. Leave yarn in front, turn work.

Start working in pattern.
