Bella Chenille Cowl

This luxurious garter stitch cowl easily slips over your head to create a visually stunning and warm accessory. Bella can be worn over a long sleeve tunic or under a winter coat for casually chic coziness!

Skill Level: Easy

Size: Neck opening 23” circumference x bottom edge 35” circumference x 5.5” high

Gauge: 11 sts and 20 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Garter st

Materials

Yarn: Premier Yarns Retro Velvet (100% Polyester; 306 yards [280 meters]/280 grams): #1088-08 Ruby (1 ball)

Needles: US size 10½” (6.5mm) straight

Notions: Stitch marker (1), tapestry needle, crochet hook

Pattern Stitches

SSK: Slip next 2 stitches together knitwise to RH needle, insert LH needle from left to right through front lps of sts, yo RH needle and knit to create a decrease.

This pattern is worked in the flat from the bottom to the top.

Pattern

Row 1: Using a knit cast on, CO 96 sts, place marker between 48th and 49th st to mark center bottom edge of cowl.
Row 2: K to within 2 sts before marker, k2tog, sm, ssk, k across.
Row 3: K.
Rep last 2 rows until piece meas approx. 5.5”.
BO knitwise.

Finishing

Use tapestry needle to seam short ends of cowl to form center back seam.

Cut 36 strands of yarn 18” long for fringe.

Fold 4 strands in half, insert crochet hook into front tip of cowl, pull center of fringe through cowl, gently pull ends of fringe through fringe center. Rep to add 4 strands of fringe approximately 2” apart or where desired along each side of cowl.

Trim all fringe ends to the same length.
