Wine-derful Time Snowman Bottle Cozies

If you’re dreaming of a white Christmas, not to worry! If the white runs out, drink the red! These adorable snowmen make the perfect last-minute gift — especially if you’re bringing wine to a holiday party and want to treat the hosts.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 9.5” (24 cm) tall from bottom to top x 4” (10 cm) circumference unstretched.

Gauge: 20 sts and 27 rows = 4” (10 cm) in St st after wet blocking.

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Cascade Yarns Cascade 220 Superwash (100% Superwash Wool; 220 yards [200 meters]/100 grams): #871 White (MC, 1 skein), #815 Black (C1, 1 skein), #809 Really Red (C2, 1 skein), #259 Blue Turquoise (C3, 1 skein), #825 Orange (C4, 1 skein).

Needles: US size 6 (4.0 mm) set of 5 DPNs or preferred needles for working in the rnd.
Notions: Tapestry needle, scissors, stitch marker, US size G/6 (4.0 mm) crochet hook.

Abbreviations

KFB – Knit in front and back of the same stitch, this creates two stitches from one stitch.

SSK – Slip stitch, slip stitch, and knit the two stitches together, this decreases two stitches to one stitch.

Pattern Notes

The snowman bottle holder is knit in the rounds, from bottom to the top. The pattern offers two varieties of the snowman’s hat.The scarf is knit flat separately. The snowman face is embroidered as well as the buttons on his belly.

With the MC yarn CO 4 sts. Place the stitch marker on the first st and begin working in the rounds.
Rnd 1: Knit around.
Rnd 2: Kfb 4 times. (8 sts)
Rnd 3: Knit.

Rnd 4: Kfb 8 times. (16 sts)
Rnd 5: Knit.

Rnd 6: (Kfb, K1) 8 times. (24 sts)
Rnd 7: Knit.

Rnd 5: Knit.

Rnd 6: (Kfb, K1) 8 times. (24 sts)

Thread the long tail of C1 onto a yarn needle. Sew together Rnd 61 and Rnd 75 to create the brim of the top hat.

Scarf

With the C3 and two DPNs used as straight needles, CO 6 sts.

Rows 1-130: K5, sl1.

Row 131: BO.

Weave in the ends.

Cut 24 pieces of C3 about 4-5” / [10-13 cm] long for fringes.

Take two pieces of cut yarn and fold in half. With crochet hook, pull about half of the yarn through the edge of Scarf. Pull the ends of yarn through the loop and pull to tighten.

Carrot Nose 

With the C4, CO  6 sts. Place the stitch marker on the first st and begin working in the rnd.

Rnds 1-2: Knit around.

Rnd 3: Ssk around. (3 sts)

Rnd 4: Knit around.

Cut the yarn and thread the end on a tapestry needle.

Pull the end through the remaining sts on needles, gather up and close the hole.

Stitch to secure.

Finishing

Weave in the ends.

With C1, embroider two eyes and mouth to face, and buttons on belly of the Snowman.

With C4, sew Carrot Nose to Snowman’s face.

Insert a bottle into Snowman.

Wrap and tie Scarf around bottle holder, and if preferred, use a small amount of string in the color of Snowman Hat to tie the Hat securely around the bottle.
