These wintry Fair Isle mittens are quick and easy to knit. With a snug and comfortable fit, they’re great to keep your hands warm after a day on the slopes!

Gauge: 25 sts and 36 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st after wet blocking
Yarn: Nako Pirlanta (100% Acrylic; 246 yards [225 meters]/100 grams): 2250 Bisque (MC, 1 ball), 10084 Cyan (CC1, 1 ball), 6976 Ocean Blue (CC2, 1 ball),
Needles: US size 2.5 (3.0 mm) DPNs or 24” circular, US size 3 (3.25 mm) DPNs or 24” circular
Notions: Tapestry needle, markers, scrap yarn
Rnd 1: *K1, p1; rep from * around.
Rep Rnd 1 for patt.
This pattern is worked in the round from the cuff to the fingertips.
Tips for stranding:
- Allow enough slack when carrying the yarn across the back so the fabric does not pucker.
- If the yarn is being stranded over more than 4 stitches, weave it in your knitting. To do this, knit one stitch, crossing the stranded yarn over the working yarn. Continue until you need to weave again, this time crossing the stranded yarn under your working yarn.
With smaller needles and MC, CO 44 (48, 52) sts, pm, join for working in the rnd.
Work in 1×1 Rib until Cuff meas 2.5 (2.5, 3)”.
Switch to larger needles.
Rnd 1: Knit.
Begin Colorwork chart for your size. Chart is repeated twice for each rnd. When increasing sts, start following chart from 1 st before 2nd marker for each rnd.
Rnds 2-6: Knit.
Rnd 7: M1, k1, m1, pm2, knit to end. (2 sts inc’d)
Rnds 8-9: Knit.
Rnd 10: M1, knit to marker, m1, knit to end. (2 sts inc’d)
Rep Rows 8-10 a total of 5 (5, 6) more times, 15 (15, 17) sts between beg of rnd and marker. Place these sts on scrap yarn, CO 1 st and cont working in patt, remove marker 2.
Work to end of Colorwork chart, then work 8 (8, 10) more rnds or until desired length.
Rnd 1: K22 (24, 26), pm, knit to end.
Rnd 2: K1, ssk, knit to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, k2, ssk, knit to 3 sts before end, k2tog. (4 sts dec’d)
Rep Rnd 2 until 8 sts remain.
Break yarn, leaving a long tail, and thread through the remaining sts, pulling tightly
Place sts on scrap yarn back on working needles.
Knit across these sts, then pick up 3 sts and join for working in the rnd. (18 (18, 20) sts)
Knit until the thumb measures 1.75 (2, 2.25)” from pickup.
Decrease Rnd: *K2tog; rep from * to end. (9 (9, 10) sts)
Break yarn, and thread the tail through these sts, pulling tightly
Weave in ends.
Use yarn tail to sew the hole at the beginning of the thumb.
Block according to yarn used.
