Azora Brioche Garter Cowl

Azora is a one-skein cowl that combines brioche and garter stitches for a bold and beautiful result. Its two-row pattern is also easily memorized, which makes for a quick and transportable project that can be customized to your liking!

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: Finished Circumference 27″ / [68.5 cm] x 8” / [20.5 cm] height

Gauge: 13 sts and 32 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Half Brioche pattern; 16 sts and 32 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Garter pattern.

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Knit Picks Preciosa Tonal Worsted (100% Merino Wool; 273 yards [250 meters]/100 grams): Crest (1 skein)

Needles: US size 8 (5 mm) 24” / [60 cm] circular

Notions: Stitch markers, tapestry needle

Stitch Pattern

Brk: Knit st tog with its companion yo

Sl1yof: Insert needle purlwise wyif, place yarn over needle to back, then between needles to front, slip st and the companion yo to right needle

Half-Brioche (worked over an even number of sts)

Rnd 1: *P1, sl1yof; rep from * to end.

Rnd 2: *P1, brk; rep from * to end.

Rep Rnds 1-2 for patt.

Pattern Notes

Cowl is worked in the rnd from the bottom up. Pattern can be worked from text or chart.

Pattern

CO loosely 95 sts, place beg of rnd m and join to work in the rnd, careful not to twist sts.

Bottom Edging

Rnd 1: *P1, k1; rep from * over 56 sts, p1, pm, knit to end.

Rnd 2: Cont rib patt to 1 st before m, p1, sl m, purl to end.

Body

Rnd 1: Work Half-Brioche patt to 1 st before m, p1, sl m, knit to end.

Rnd 2: Cont Half-Brioche patt to 1 st before m, p1, sl m, purl to end.

Rep Rnds 1-2 until piece meas 7.75” / [19.75 cm], ending with Rnd 2 of Half-Brioche patt.

Top Edging

Next Rnd: *P1, k1; rep from * to 1 st before m, p1, sl m, knit to end.

Loosely BO in patt.

Finishing

Lightly block to measurements. Weave in ends.
