Maci Pocket Skirt

This skirt is one part of a matching set that is perfect for a Valentine’s Day date! Paired with the Be Mine Turtleneck Sweater, the Maci Skirt is a flattering and warm piece that will perfectly complement the wearer’s shape and style this season. Worn with tights or with a petticoat, this skirt is sure to make a statement. The best thing about it? Not only is the waistband elastic, but it has pockets, too!

2” negative ease recommended.

Gauge: 10 sts and 14 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Stockinette st after wet blocking

Materials

Yarn:

Amano Yana (100% fine Highland wool; 175 yards [160 meters]/200 grams): 1307 Berry Crush (MC, 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 7, 7, 8) skeins), 1320 Rose Macaroon (CC, 1 skein)

 

Lace weight yarn

Berroco Aerial (65% kid mohair, 35% silk; 284 yards [260 meters]/25 grams): 3411 Tea Rose (3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5) balls)

 

 

Needles: US size 13 (9.0 mm) 24’’ and 36’’ circular needles.

Notions: Markers, 2 yards CC waste yarn for holding stitches, tapestry needle, 1½’’-2’’ wide elastic in length of waist measurement. Spare 24’’ circular needle (US size M/N-13 (9.0 mm) or smaller for provisional CO).

Pattern Notes

This skirt is meant to sit around the waist.

Skirt is knit from the top-down in the round, starting with a provisional cast-on waistband. Afterthought pockets are knit into body of skirt.

Hold 1 strand of mohair together with MC only throughout.

Waistband

Before starting skirt, sew elastic together to create elastic ring.

With 24’’ circular needle, CO 65 (75, 85, 95, 105, 110, 120, 125) sts using a provisional CO.

Rnds 1-14: With MC (see Notes), knit.

Unravel provisional CO and place the 65 (75, 85, 95, 105, 110, 120, 125) provisional sts on spare 24’’ circular needle.

Fold waistband with right side out in half and place elastic ring in between sides.

Rnd 15 (close waistband): Knit around, knitting tog each live st with its corresponding provisional st to encase the elastic ring.

Body:

Switch to longer circular needle when needed.

Rnd 1: Knit.

Rnd 2: K11 (14, 16, 19, 21, 22, 25, 26), k10 with CC waste yarn, k22 (27, 32, 37, 42, 45, 50, 52), k10 with CC waste yarn, knit to end.

Rnd 3: Cont with MC only, knit.

Rnd 4: (K1, M1) around. (130 (150, 170, 190, 210, 220, 240, 250) sts)

Sizes 26 (30, 34)’’ Only:

Rnd 5: (K5, M1) around. (156 (180, 204) sts)

All Sizes:

Rnds 6 (6, 6, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5)-78: Knit.

Rnds 79-80: (K1, p1) around.

BO all sts.

Pocket (Make 2)

With RS facing, pick up the 10 sts above and below the waste yarn. Cut and carefully remove the waste yarn.

Setup Rnd: With CC, [k10, pick up 1 st from waste yarn row] twice. (22 sts)
Rnds 1-20: Knit.

Kitchener stitch pocket end closed. Push pocket to the inside of skirt.

Finishing

Weave in all ends and block to finished measurements.
