This beautiful trapezoid shawl starts from the edge of the neck and flows into two mesmerizing lace patterns. With a scalloped edge and a crochet chain bind off, this design is as unique as it is chic.

Size: 60″ wide x 30″ deep at the widest point

Gauge: 22 sts and 36 rows= 4″ [10 cm] in Eyelet pattern after wet blocking.

Yarn:

Super fine weight yarn Knit Picks Chroma Fingering (70% Superwash Wool, 30% Nylon; 396 yards [362 meters]/100 grams): #26926 Drawing Room, 2 balls

Lace weight yarn Kreinik Twist (65% Polyester, 35% Nylon; 273 yards [250 meters]): #031 Berry, 3 skeins

Needles: US size 4 (3.5 mm): 40″ circular

Notions: Markers; US size F (3.75 mm) crochet hook

M1: Knit in the yarn between the stitch just knit and the next one.

Row 6 and all even numbered rows: purl.

Row 7: Yo, k5, yo.

Row 9: Yo, k3, yo, ssk, k2, yo.

Row 11: Yo, k2, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k2, yo.

Row 13: Yo, k5, yo, ssk, k4, yo.

Row 15: Yo, k13, yo.

Row 17: Yo, k1, *k2, yo, ssk, k4; rep from * to 2 sts before marker, ending last repeat with k2, yo.

Row 19: Yo, k2, *k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k3; rep from * to 2 sts before marker, ending last repeat with k2, yo.

Holding yarn and metallic thread together, CO 27 sts.

Rows 1-4: Knit.

Start working as follows:

Row 5: K2, PM, work Row 5 of Eyelet pattern, PM, work Row 5 of Fountain Lace, PM, work Row 5 of Eyelet pattern, PM, k2.

Cont in est patt, working from chart or written instructions. Remember that every repeat of odd numbers of the Eyelet pattern increases the number of sts by 4 until the end of Row 168. You will have 355 stst on needles.

Row 169 (RS): K2, yo, k6, (M1, K7) 23 times, work Row 9 of Fountain Lace, (k7, M1) 23 times, k6, yo, k2 – 403 sts.

Edging

Note: The number of sts decreases and increases while working this pattern. They go back to the original 403 sts at the end of Row 179.

Row 170 (WS): Knit.

Row 171 (RS): K2, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1.

Row 172: Knit.

Row 173: K2, (p1, k2tog, k6, yo, k1, yo, k6, ssk, p1) 21 times, k2 – 403 sts.

Rows 174 and 176: K2, (k1, ssp, p13, p2tog, k1) 21 times, k2 – 361 sts.

Row 175: K2, [p1, k2tog, k4, (yo, k1) 3 times, yo, k4, ssk, p1] 21 times, k2 – 403 sts.

Row 177: K2, [p1, k2tog, k2, (yo, k1) 7 times, yo, k2, ssk, p1] 21 times, k2 – 487 sts

Row 179: K2, (p1, k2tog, k15, ssk, p1) 21 times, K2 – 403 sts.

Row 180: Knit.

Row 181: K2, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1.

Row 182: Knit.

Opal shawl chart

With the crochet hook, bind off as follows:

Row 183: *K3tog, ch 5; rep from * until 4 sts rem on needles, k4tog.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in all ends. Block to dimension. yarn ball
