Caribbean Sea Clutch

A hand-dyed yarn and bobbled texture combine to create a beautiful clutch that will remind you of your vacation all year round. Worked up in a dimensional stitch pattern with a stockinette liner, this clutch is perfect for carrying the necessities.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 13” x 9.5” (before seaming); 5.5” x 9.5” seamed with flap closed

Gauge: 21 sts x 28 rows = 4” [10 cm] in stockinette st before blocking

Yarn:

Light weight yarn Undead Yarn Werewolf (100% merino wool; 400 yards [366 meters]/100 grams): The Magician King (1 ball)
Needles: US size 6 (4.0 mm) straight needles
Notions: Tapestry needle, pins (optional)

Kw: Knitwise
P3tog: Purl 3 together

CO 55.
Row 1 (RS): Sl1 kw, k to last st, p1.
Row 2: Sl1 kw, p across.
Rows 3-38: Rep Rows 1 & 2 18 times.
Rows 39-41: Rep Row 1 3 times.
Row 42: Rep Row 2.
Rows 43-80: Rep Rows 1 & 2 19 times.
Row 81: BO in pattern as set in Row 1.
Spray block lining flat.

Clutch Exterior- Front Flap

CO 70.
Row 1 (RS): Sl1 kw, p across.
Row 2: Sl1 kw, *bob in next st, p3tog; rep from * across to last st, p1.
Row 3: Rep Row 1.
Row 4: Sl1 kw, *p3tog, bob in next st; rep from * across to last st, p1.
Rows 5-20: Rep Rows 1-4 four times.
Row 21: Rep Row 1.
Row 22: Sl1 kw, k to last st, p1.
Row 23: Rep Row 1.
Row 24: Rep Row 22.

Back Panel

Rows 25-64: Rep Rows 1-4 10 times.
Rows 65-68: Rep Rows 21-24 once.

Front Panel

Rows 69-108: Rep Rows 1-4 10 times.
Row 109: BO in pattern as set in Row 22. Fasten off, leaving long yarn tail for seaming.

Finishing

With WS facing, position lining to back and front panels, pining in place if necessary. With yarn needle, whip stitch pieces together along all 4 sides. Then along Rows 65-68 of clutch exterior. With yarn needle, whipstitch short edges of clutch closed through all 4 layers. With yarn needle, weave in ends. Fold over front flap. yarn ball
