Pattern Notes

The pattern begins with Judy’s magic cast-on and is worked seamlessly in the round. The waves are made with slip-stitches, and the scallop shell is made with reverse stockinette and twisted travelling stitches. If desired, the knitter may switch to 24″ circular needles after working a sufficient number of rounds of the sides so that magic loop is no longer required to navigate the corners of the base.

This pattern is worked in the round from the bottom up, with the yarn held double throughout.

The project is worked at a very firm gauge for stability and structure, but the gauge/yarn may be modified as desired.

The instructions for the Seashell Motif are both written and charted. Read Seashell Motif chart from the bottom up and for each round from the right to the left.

The bag is finished with an i-cord bind off, and the handles are worked separately in matching i-cord.

If desired, handles made of wood, rope, or any other material may be substituted. Likewise, the bag may be reinforced with plastic canvas or lined with fabric for added stability.
