Poppy Broken Brioche Lines Scarf

Poppy is a quick project using garter stitch with elongated slipped stitches for visual interest. No matter how you work up this scarf (either by following the pattern or by reading the chart), you’ll love how cozy and beautiful this scarf turns out to be.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 58″ / [147.5 cm] x 6.5″ / [16.5cm]

Gauge: 10 sts and 20 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Half-Brioche patt


Yarn: Knit Picks Biggo (50% Superwash Merino Wool, 50% Nylon; 110 yards [100 meters]/100 grams): 26569 Garnet Heather (3 skeins)

Needles: US size 13 (9 mm) 24” / [60 cm] circular

Notion: Stitch markers, tapestry needle

Special Stitches

Brp: Purl st tog with its companion yo

Sl1yof: Insert needle purlwise wyif, place yarn over needle to back, then between needles to front, then slip st and the companion yo to right needle

Pattern Notes

Scarf is worked back and forth from the longer end. Pattern can be worked from text or chart.


Loosely CO 145 sts.

Set-up Row (WS): Sl1 p-wise, *p1, k1; rep from * to end.
Row 1 (RS): Sl1 p-wise wyif, *sl1yof, p1; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.

Row 2: Sl1 wyif, p1, *k1, brp; rep from * to last st, k1.

Rows 3-10: Rep Rows 1-2.

Row 11 (RS): Sl1 p-wise wyif, p1, *sl1yof, p1; rep from * to last st, k1.

Row 12 (WS): Sl1 wyif, *k1, brp; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.

Rows 13-20: Rep Rows 11-12.

Rep Rows 1-10 once more.
BO Row (RS): Sl1, *yo, k1, sl both sts over, p1; rep from * to last st, cut yarn and pull through last st.


Lightly block to measurements. Weave in ends.
