Heart on My Sleeve Pullover

A navy and white striped pullover is a wardrobe classic. The bright red heart on the left shoulder adds a touch of whimsy that takes this sweater beyond basic. This raglan pullover is knit in separate pieces and sewn together. The heart is worked from a chart using the intarsia technique.

Pattern Notes

This pullover is worked from the bottom up in separate pieces, then sewn together.

The heart motif on the left sleeve is worked using the intarsia technique.

Using A and smaller needles, CO 78 (86, 98, 106, 118, 126, 134) sts.

Row 1 (WS): *K1, p1; rep from * to end.

Rows 2-12: Rep Row 1.

Change to larger needles.

Row 13 (WS): Purl.

Row 14: With B, knit.

Row 15: Purl.

Row 16: With A, knit.

Row 17: Purl.

Cont in St st and stripe pattern as established, work even until piece meas 14 (14.5, 15, 15.5, 16, 16, 16)”, ending with a WS color A row.

Note: Maintain established stripe pattern throughout.

Front

Work same as for Back until 44 (46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 56) sts rem, ending with a WS row.

Shape Front Neck

Row 1 (RS): K2, ssk, k9, join another ball of yarn and BO center 18 (20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30) sts, knit to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. (12 sts each side)

Work both sides at once with separate balls of yarn.

Row 2 (WS): Purl to neck edge; on other side, purl to end.

Row 3: K2, ssk, knit to 3 sts before neck edge, k2tog, k1; on other side, k1, ssk, knit to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. (10 sts each side)

Row 4: Purl to neck edge; on other side, purl to end.

Left Sleeve

Work same as for Right Sleeve, including Shape Raglans until 45 sts rem, ending with a WS color A row.

Begin Heart Motif

Place marker on each side of center 15 sts.

Cont Raglan Shaping and stripe pattern as established, work Heart chart between markers over the next 19 rows.

Remove markers.

Complete same as for Right Sleeve.

Finishing

Sew Left Sleeve to Front and Back at raglans.

Sew Right Sleeve to Front at raglan.

Neckband

Using A and smaller needles, with RS facing, pick up and knit 90 (98, 102, 106, 110, 114, 118) sts evenly along neck edge.

Row 1 (WS): *K1, p1; rep from * to end.

Rows 2-7: Rep Row 1.

BO all sts.

Sew Right Back raglan and neckband seam.

Sew side and sleeve seams.

Weave in all ends.

Block to finished measurements.
