Gia Garter Cowl

Gia is a quick intermediate project using garter stitch with elongated slipped stitches for visual interest. Wear it looped once or twice for extra warmth. You’ll love how cute this looks with your favorite jean jacket.

Size: Finished Circumference 48″ / [122 cm] x 7.75″ / [19.5cm]

Gauge: 10 sts and 26 rnds = 4” [10cm] in Garter patt; one Garter Slipped patt rep = 3” x 1.25”

Materials

Yarn: Knit Picks Bare Wool of the Andes Bulky Yarn (100% Peruvian Highland Wool; 137 yards [124 meters]/100 grams): 23856 Natural (2 skeins)

Needles: US size 13 (9 mm) 24” / [60 cm] circular

Notion: Stitch markers, tapestry needle

Special Stitches

Garter

Rnd1: Knit.

Rnd 2: Purl.

Rep Rnds 1-2 for patt.

Garter Slipped (worked over 8 sts)

Rnd 1: Sl1 p-wise wyib, k7.

Rnd 2: Sl1 p-wise wyib, p7.

Rnds 3-4: Rep Rnds 1-2.

Rnd 5: K4, sl1 p-wise wyib, k3.

Rnd 6: P4, sl1 p-wise wyib, p3.

Rnds 7-8: Rep Rnds 5-6.

Rep Rnds 1-8 for patt.

Pattern Notes

Cowl is worked in the rnd from the bottom up. Pattern can be worked from text or chart.

Pattern

CO loosely 120 sts. Pm and join to work in the rnd, careful not to twist sts.

Rnds 1-4: Work Garter patt.

Rnds 5-12: Work Garter Slipped patt.

Rnds 13-44: Rep Rnds 5-12, 4 more times.

Rnds 45-48: Work Garter patt.

BO loosely in knit.

Finishing

Lightly block to measurements. Weave in ends.
