Salted Petals Maxi Skirt

The Salted Petals Maxi Skirt is designed in the same soft organic cotton and neutral palette as the coordinating top. It features a twisted rib elastic waistband and gentle shaping, easy to customize for length. Whether worn together with the Salted Petals Top or styled solo, this skirt brings flowy movement and understated coastal style to any summer day.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Sizes: 36 (38, 40, 42) (44, 46, 48, 50)” final hip circumference, intended with 0-2” of positive ease; approximately 31” long.

Materials

Yarn: Cascade Yarns Botanica, 100% Organic Cotton, 328 yds (300 m) / 100g (3.5 oz); MC – 101, 1 (1, 2, 2) (2, 2, 2, 2) balls; CC – 102, 1 (1, 1, 1) (2, 2, 2, 2) balls.

Needles: US size 3 (3.0mm) 21” or longer circular needle
US size 4 (3.5mm) 21” or longer circular needle, or size to obtain gauge

Gauge: 19 st x 28 rows = 4” (blocked, in garter lace pattern, with larger size needles); 22 sts x 36 rows = 4” (blocked, in 1×1 ribbing, on smaller size needles)

Pattern Notes

The skirt is worked top-down, starting with the twisted rib waistband. The upper skirt body is worked in the round, alternating between two colors. The lower skirt is worked flat to create a slit that is finished with crochet edging.

Pattern Instructions

Waistband

With smaller size needles and MC, CO 170 (180, 190, 200) (210, 220, 230, 240) sts. Join to work in the Rnd and place BOR marker. Begin working the waistband in 1×1 Twisted Rib Patt as follows

Rnd 1: *ktbl, p; rep from * around.

Rep Rnd 1 another 13 times.

Next Rnd: purl.

Rep Rnd 1 another 14 times.

Next Rnd: purl.

Upper Skirt Body

Change to larger needle size and begin to work the body of the skirt in Garter Lace Stitch Pattern, in the round, alternating between MC and CC for each Patt Rep for a total of 8 repeats.

Lower Skirt Body

Next Rnd (RS): work in Patt around to last st, kf&b. (1 st Inc’d)

Continue to work in Garter Lace Stitch Pattern flat, alternating between colors for each Rep, for a total of 7 repeats.

BO all sts on RS, do not break yarn.

Using crochet hook and attached yarn, work a row of single crochet sts around the back slit. Break yarn.

Finishing

Weave in all ends. Using tapestry needle, sew waistband down along the WS, leaving a 2” opening. Thread elastic into the waistband and sew the ends together. Close the opening. Steam block flat with hot iron over a wet towel to open up lace.
