A triple row of stacked hearts is the focal point of this trendy pullover. The asymmetrical lower edge adds stylish flare, while the barred cable ribbings on the sleeve edges provide stability and extra coziness.

medium weight yarn Berroco Modern Cotton (60% Pima Cotton, 40% Modal Rayon; 209 yards [191 meters]/100 grams): 1603 Piper, 5 (5, 6, 7) balls

Needles: US Size 6 (4 mm): Straight and 16” circular

Notions: Markers; stitch holders; cable needle (cn)

Special Stitches

W&T (Wrap and Turn): Bring yarn to front of work, sl next st to RH needle, take yarn to back of work, replace slipped st to LH needle, turn. Work wrap with main st on following row.

Barred Cable Rib (multiple of 4 sts + 2)

Rows 1 and 3 (WS): K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end of row.
Row 4: P2, *yo, k2, pass yo over k2, p2; rep from * to end of row

Rep Rows 1-4 for patt.

Pattern Notes

Make sure to maintain proper row count when working lower edge shaping within front panel.

For ease in determining where next wrap will be, place marker in wrap just worked. Also, note on chart position of last wrap worked.

Work even in Barred Cable Rib for 13 rows, inc 1 (3, 1, 3) sts on last WS row – 91 (101, 111, 121) sts.

Lower Edge Short-Row Shaping

Row 1 (RS): K5 (5, 6, 7) sts, W&T, p to end.
Row 2 (WS): K5 (5, 6, 7) sts beyond previous wrap, W&T, p to end.

Cont to work short-rows as est until 7 (17, 13, 9) sts rem.

Next Row (RS): Knit.

Work even in St st until shorter side seam meas 14 (14½, 15, 15½)” from beg, ending with a WS row.

Shape Armhole

BO 10 (11, 14, 15) sts at beg of next 2 rows – 71 (79, 83, 91) sts.

Dec 1 st each end every RS row 3 (3, 4, 5) times – 65 (73, 75, 81) sts.

Work even until Armhole meas 7 (7½, 8, 8½)” above bound-off underarm sts, ending with a WS row.

Shape Shoulders and Back Neck

Mark center 25 (27, 27, 29) sts.

Next Row (RS): K to first marker, join second ball of yarn and BO off marked sts, k to end of row.

Working on both sides of neck with separate balls of yarn, dec 1 st at each neck edge every row 3 times, at the same time BO at each arm edge 5 (6, 7, 7) sts once, then 6 (7, 7, 8) sts twice.

Front

CO 90 (98, 110, 118) sts.

Work even in Barred Cable Rib for 13 rows, inc 1 (3, 1, 3) sts on last WS row – 91 (101, 111, 121) sts.

Lower Edge Short-Row Shaping

Set-up Row (RS): K17 (22, 27, 32), pm, k57, pm, k to end of row.

Row 1 (WS): P5 (5, 6, 7) sts, W&T, k to end.
Row 2 (WS): P5 (5, 6, 7) sts beyond previous wrap, W&T, k to end.

Cont to work short-rows as est, keeping end sts in St st and marked 57 center sts in Front Panel chart.

Beg with Row 2 of chart when you reach markers. Make sure to keep row count of center panel correct when working short-row shaping.

Work last W&T when 7 (17, 13, 9) sts rem.

Next Row (WS): Work across all sts.

Keeping to est patt, work even until sides meas same as for Back.

Shape Armhole

BO 10 (11, 14, 15) sts at beg of next 2 rows – 71 (79, 83, 91) sts.

Dec 1 st each end every RS row 3 (3, 4, 5) times – 65 (73, 75, 81) sts.

Work even until Armhole meas 4 (4½, 5, 5½)” above bound-off underarm sts, ending with a WS row.

Shape Front Neck

Mark center 13 (15, 15, 17) sts.

Next Row (RS): K to first marker, join second ball of yarn and BO marked sts, work to end of row.

Working on both sides of neck with separate balls of yarn, BO 2 sts at each neck edge 3 times. Dec 1 st each side of neck every RS row 3 times – 17 (20, 21, 23) sts at each side of neck.

Work even until Armhole meas same as for back.

BO at each arm edge 5 (6, 7, 7) sts once, then 6 (7, 7, 8) sts twice.

Left Sleeve

CO 58 (58, 62, 62) sts.

Work even in Barred Cable Rib for 13 rows, inc 1 st at end of last row – 59 (59, 63, 63) sts.

Set-up pattern

Mark center 19 sts.

Next Row (RS): K to marker, work Row 1 of Sleeve Motif chart over center 19 sts, k to end of row.

Keeping center sts in motif and rem sts in St st, inc 1 st each end every 8th (6th, 6th, 6th) row 7 (8, 10, 13) times – 73 (75, 83, 89) sts.

Work even until Sleeve meas 11 (12, 12½, 13)” from CO, ending with a WS row.

Shape Armhole

BO 10 (11, 14, 15) sts at beg of next 2 rows – 53 (53, 55, 59) sts.

Dec 1 st each end every RS row 3 (3, 4, 5) times – 47 (47, 47, 49) sts

Shape Sleeve Cap

Work even for 1½ (2, 2, 2)”.

Dec 1 st each end every RS row 3 times – 41 (41, 41, 43) sts.

BO 4 sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 5 sts at beg of following 2 rows – 15 (15, 15, 17) sts.

BO rem 15 (15, 15, 17) sts.

Right Sleeve

Work as for Left Sleeve, omitting motif.

Finishing

Neck Band

Sew shoulder seams.

With smaller circular needle, begin at right shoulder seam, pick up and knit 1 st in each bound-off st of front and back neck, and 3 sts for every 4 rows in rows at sides of neck. Adjust sts if necessary to obtain a multiple of 4 sts. Place marker between first and last st. Join to work in the rnd.

Rnds 1, 2, and 3: *K2, p2; rep from * around.
Rnd 4: *Yo, k2, pass yo over k2, p2; rep from * around.

Rep Rnds 1-4 once more.

Assembly

Sew Sleeves into Armholes. Sew side and sleeve seams.yarn ball
