Provisional Cast-On (Crochet Hook)
With crochet hook and waste yarn make a slip knot.
Hold the knitting needle in left hand and take yarn behind the knitting needle.
Wrap yarn around crochet hook and pull through the loop on hook.
Repeat steps 2-3 until you have the necessary number of stitches on needle. Fasten off. Start knitting into these stitches as instructed.
Remove waste yarn when instructed in pattern by unraveling the crochet chain and inserting the needle into the free sts.

Pattern Notes

In pattern, keep the first and last 3 sts in garter stitch and start every row with sl1 wyib.
The edging is worked perpendicular to the body of the shawl. Each 2 rows of the edging binds off 1 stitch from the body.

Pattern

With crochet hook and waste yarn and using the provisional cast on technique, cast on 87 sts.
With main yarn, sl1wiyb, k2, PM, purl to last 3 sts, PM, k3.
Work Arbor pattern between the 3 garter stitches. Repeat pattern for 50″. End with row 32. Do not bind off. Cut yarn.

Edging for Bottom Edge

Cast on 12 sts. Work in garter stitch to last st. Ssk the last stitch of the edging with the next st of the body of the shawl. Bind off 2 more sts then switch to Faggoted edging and work it 5 times. Work garter stitch binding off last 4 sts. Cut yarn.

Edging for the Beginning of the Wrap

Remove the cast on edge and place all sts on the needle. Work edging same as above.
