Not all patterns are super hard to make, though, and some can be worked in smaller pieces with a simple stitch and then sewn together. Knit sweaters are versatile garments and can be worn year-round, though their style has to be adapted to fit the changing temperature. Like all garments, lighter weight yarn and airy designs are best for summer styles and cover-ups while thicker yarn and tighter-knit stitches are best to add warmth in the winter. No matter what style of sweater you’re looking for, there’s a knit sweater pattern out there to suit your tastes – from thick pullovers to open-front cardigans to cropped little sweaters. Plus, you can add buttons or zippers to your designs or work up some patterns in delicate eyelets and lace-work designs.

Knit sweater patterns typically come in two types of styles – an open-front design which can be buttoned or not, and a traditional pullover design. Both styles can range in difficulty and are endlessly customizeable. Personally, I think open-front designs are the most traditional style out there and I typically carry a light cardigan with me year-round while pullover knit sweater patterns are the best for the winter. They’re easily layered over a thinner t-shirt or tank.

Knit Cardigan Patterns

FauxIsleCardiganOpen-front cardigan patterns are popular summer and transitional sweater patterns. These can be made in either thick or lighter yarn to suit the season. Choose to add buttons and buttonholes or simply keep the front trim uncomplicated to make your perfect cardigan. Add a bit of a lace motif to the design for a way to dress up the pattern.

Pullover Knit Sweater Patterns
