Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in the round from the top down. Begin by working the back flat to the armhole seam, then work the left and right fronts separately to the neckline, where they are joined and continue to be worked flat to the armhole seam. The fronts and back are joined and worked in the round to the hem.

The sleeve stitches are picked up around each armhole and worked in short rows until the cap is formed, then joined in the round and worked to the sleeve edge.

Three needles of increasing sizes are used to work the lace at the hem and sleeve edge to create a flared effect.

Shape Cap

The sleeve caps are worked back and forth in short rows in which more stitches are worked on each side of the above center marked sts with each row.  You will see a distinctive “turning gap” or larger space between the wrapped stitches and the next unwrapped stitch.  If this gap is not apparent, you may wish to mark wrapped stitches with a removable stitch marker.  Wraps do not need to be picked up as they will form a decorative pattern along the sleeve edge, but you may pick up previous wraps as you come to them and work them with the stitch for a different effect.

Next Row: With RS still facing, k to the second removable marker for the center sts, wrap the next st, turn work so WS is facing, p to the end of the marked sts, wrap next st, turn work.

Next Row: *K to 1 st past the turning gap, wrap the second st after the gap, turn work, p to 1 st past the turning gap, wrap the second st after the gap, turn work; repeat from * once more.

Even if I don’t knit every pattern I do, I always use circular needles but don’t connect the yarn to make it in the round. I feel it’s more comfortable for me and it’s not as heavy or cumbersome.

what is it with you people and circular needles? I much prefer doing front and back separately.
