Spotted Around Hat

This fun leopard print hat is a wonderful companion to the Spotted Around Scarf. The hat is knit in the round, from bottom up, starting with 1×1 rib brim, and continued with the leopard pattern for the body of the hat. Shown with an optional pom pom in both colors.

Sizes: Small (Medium, Large), approx. 16 (18, 20)” / [40.5 (45.5, (51) cm] circumference, unstretched measured at brim.

Length: Approx. 8.5 (9.5, 10.5)” / [21.5 (24, 26.5) cm]

Gauge: 20 sts and 23 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Leopard Pattern after wet blocking.

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Cascade Yarns Cascade 220 Superwash (100% Superwash Wool; 220 yards [200 meters]/100 grams): #876 Sandalwood (MC, 1 skein), #872 Bitter Chocolate (CC, 1 skein).

Needle: US size 7 (4.5 mm) set of 5 DPNs or circular, US 6 (4.0 mm) set of 5 DPNs or circular

Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch marker, pom-pom maker (optional).

The chart is followed from bottom to top, working each row from right to left, knitting all sts 8 (9, 10) times around.

Using smaller needles, CO 80 (90, 100) sts in MC. PM, being careful not to twist sts, join to begin working in the rnd.

Rnds 1-20: Work in 1×1 Rib pattern. Attach CC.

Body

Switch to larger needles.

Rnd 1: Knit in MC

Rnds 2-21: Work in Leopard Pattern, using written instructions or chart 8 (9, 10) times around.

After final rnd, cut CC.

Knit an additional 0 (5, 10) rnds. Cont to Crown Decrease.

Cut yarn leaving a long tail, thread end on tapestry needle. Pull end through rem sts on needles, gather up and close the hole, stitch to secure.

Finishing

Weave in all ends.

Wash and block to measurements.

Optional: Make a pompom, using the pompom maker and both colors of yarn.

Sew the pompom to top of Hat.
