Diamond Cowl

This easy diamond cowl is perfect for knitting novices. Worked up in a vibrant mustard-colored yarn, this cowl features a simple stitch pattern that forms diamonds down its length.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 43” x 7” (109cm x 17.75cm)

Gauge: 24 sts and 32 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st after wet blocking

Materials

Yarn: Schachenmayr Extra Merino (100% Merino Wool; 143 yards [130 meters]/50 grams): #328 Mustard (2 balls)
Needles: US size 7 (4.5 mm) needles
Notions: Markers, removable markers, stitch holders, tapestry needle

This pattern is worked back and forth then grafted together when finished. 

Pattern

CO 42 stitches.  Knit one row.
Row 1 (RS): *k1, p3, k9, p3, k1; rep from *.
Row 2: *p2, k3, p7, k3, p2; rep from *.
Row 3: *k3, p3, k5, p3, k3; rep from *.
Row 4: *p4, k3, p3, k3, p4; rep from *.
Row 5: *k5, p3, k1, p3, k5; rep from *.
Row 6: *p6, k5, p6; rep from *.
Row 7: *k7, p3, k7; rep from *.
Row 8: *p6, k5, p6; rep from *.
Row 9: *k5, p3, k1, p3, k5; rep from *.
Row 10: *p4, k3, p3, k3, p4; rep from *.
Row 11: *k3, p3, k5, p3, k3; rep from *.
Row 12: *p2, k3, p7, k3, p2; rep from *.
Repeat rows 1-12 25 times.
Knit one row.
Bind off.

    I believe that the boarder should be worked over 5 stitches of knitting on each side of the diamond pattern if 42 stitches are cast on.

  • I think I see….you repeat the 17 sts twice and there is a 4 st garter border each side. You didn’t include this in your pattern.
