A row of double hearts makes this toddler sweater perfect for Valentine’s day festivities. She’ll be jumping for joy when she receives this this sweater just in time for her class party.

Yarn: Swans Island Washable DK Weight (100% Washable Merino wool; 140 yards [128 meters]/50 grams): EWS226 Mallard (MC, 2 (2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4) hanks), EWS224 Edgecomb Grey (CC, 2 (2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4) hanks)

Backward Loop Cast-on Method

*Wrap yarn around left thumb from front to back and secure in palm with other fingers, insert right needle upwards through strand on thumb, slip loop from thumb onto needle, pulling yarn to tighten; rep from * for desired number of sts.

Pattern Notes

This pullover is worked from the top down, seamlessly. There are a few increase rounds worked in the striped sections of the yoke. The sleeves and body are divided at the underarms and worked separately from the top down, making it easy to adjust the lengths to fit your child.

  • I printed out and started the sweater yesterday evening. Do you think you could consolidate the instructions onto smaller space? Printing two pieces of paper for the heart chart and the sweater schematic took the cake. Hopefully most of us are trying to decrease our environmental footprint. Printing out 8 pieces of paper for one pattern is a bit excessive.
