Strawberry Wine Top

We can’t resist this top and its blushing hues of strawberry wine. Its small cap sleeves are designed to drape and flutter as you move, while the bodice is simply constructed, works up quickly, and showcases the oyster stitch. Enjoy the way its bulky cotton yarn allows for a beautiful fit for a relaxing summer evening.

Gauge: 12 sts and 16 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st after blocking

Yarn:

Bulky weight yarn Knit Picks Billow (100% Cotton; 120 yards [110 meters]/100 grams): 26228 Tea Rose, 3 (4, 4, 5, 5, 6) balls

Needles: US size 10 (6 mm): 24” circular

Notions: Markers; stitch holders, tapestry needle

Special Stitches

Garter St (worked in the rnd)

Rnd 1: Knit.

Rnd 2: Purl.

Rep Rnds 1-2 for patt.

 

Oyster over 5 (Os5): Sl 5 sts to RH needle, dropping extra yarn overs, sl 5 sts back to the left-hand needle. (K1, p1) twice, k1 into all 5 sts together, wrapping the yarn twice around the needle for each st.

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in the round from the bottom up.

PatternCO 97 (109, 121, 133, 145, 157) sts, pm, join for working in the rnd, taking care not to twist sts.

Work in Garter St in the rnd for 2”.

Rnd 1: Knit.

Rnd 2: *K1, (yo twice, k1) 5 times; rep from * to end.

Rnd 3: *Os5, k1; rep from * to end.

Rnd 4: *(P5, dropping the extra yo’s), k1; rep from * to end.

Rnd 5: Knit.

Rnd 6: K3, *(yo twice, k1) 5 times, k1; rep from * to last 4 sts, k4.

Rnd 7: K3, *Os5, k1; rep from * to last 4 sts, k4.

Rnd 8: K3, *(p5, dropping the extra yo’s); rep from * to last 4 sts, k4.

Rep Rnds 1-8, 5 times until piece meas 15”.

Separate for Back and Front

Back

Row 1 (RS): BO 4, k45 (51, 57, 62, 69, 75) sts.

Row 2 (WS): BO 3, cont with Row 2 as est – 42 (48, 54, 59, 66, 72) sts.

Cont in est patt for 6”. Work in Garter St in rows (knit every stitch, every row) for 1 (1½, 2, 2½, 3, 3½)”.

Next Row (RS): K13 (13, 13, 17, 17, 17), BO 16 (22, 28, 25, 31, 41), k to end.

Working each shoulder separately.

Cont in Garter St, on next RS row, dec 1 st at neck edge – 12 (12, 12, 16, 16, 16) sts.

On next RS row, BO all sts.

Front

Row 1 (RS): BO 4, k to end.

Row 2 (WS): BO 3, cont with Row 2 as est – 41 (47, 53, 60, 65, 71) sts.

Cont in est patt for 3”. Work in Garter St in rows (knit every stitch, every row) for 1 (1½, 2, 2½, 3, 3½)”.

Next Row: K17 (17, 17, 21, 21, 21) sts, BO 7 (13, 19, 18, 23, 29) sts, k to end.

Working each shoulder separately.

Cont in Garter St, on each next RS rows, dec 1 st at neck edge until 12 (12, 12, 16, 16, 16) sts remain.

On the next RS row, BO all sts.

Sleeves (make 2)

CO 40 sts.

Work in Garter St in rows (knit every stitch, every row) for 1”.

Row 1: SSK, k6, pm, k24 sts, pm, k to last 2 sts, k2tog – 38 sts.

Row 2: P2tog, p5, pm, *p1, yo twice, p1; rep from * to next m, p to last 2 sts, p2tog – 36 sts.

Row 3: SSK, k4, pm, *Os5, k1; rep from * to m, k to last 2 sts, k2tog – 34 sts.

Row 4: P2tog, p3, *p1, k5, dropping the yo’s; rep from * to next m, p to last 2 sts, p2tog – 32 sts.

Cont in St st, decrease at the beginning and end of each row until 8 sts.

Next Row (RS): (K2tog) 4 times – 4 sts.

Next Row (WS): Purl.

BO all sts.

Finishing

Using Mattress st, seam shoulders and attach sleeves.

Weave in ends. Block to dimensions. yarn ball
