Emerald Isle Set

This cozy and rich textured cowl and mittens set will feel like a warm hug during frigid winter days. Made with chunky and vibrant emerald-colored yarn, this intermediate pattern is the best accessory combo to have.

Size: Mittens: One size to fit average adult palm; Cowl: Approx 13” x 59” [33 x 150 cm]

Gauge: Mittens: 17 sts and 23 rows = 4” [10 cm] with US 8 (5.0 mm) needles in St stitch after wet blocking; Cowl: 14 sts and 18 rows = 4” [10 cm] with US 10½ (6.5 mm) needles in St stitch after wet blocking

Materials

Yarn: Patons Shetland Chunky (75% acrylic, 25% wool; 148 yards [136 meters]/100 grams): #78701 Emerald (1 ball for Mittens, 3 balls for Cowl)
Needles: US size 10 (6.0 mm) and US size 10½ (6.5 mm) circular needles (40”), US size 10 (6.0 mm) circular (24”) needles
Notions: Cable needle, stitch marker, tapestry needle

Abbreviations

C6B: Slip next 3 stitches onto cable needle and leave at back of work. K3, then K3 from cable needle
C6F: Slip next 3 stitches onto cable needle and leave at front of work. K3, then K3 from cable needle
Kfb: Increase 1 stitch by knitting into front and back of next stitch
P2(3)tog: Purl next 2(3) stitches together
Ssk: Slip next 2 stitches knitwise one at a time. Pass them back onto left-hand needle, then knit through back loops together

Right Mitten

**With smaller needles, cast on 29 sts.
Row 1 (RS): *K1, p1, rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 2: *P1, k1, rep from * to last st, p1.
Rep last 2 rows of (k1, p1) ribbing for 3” [7.5 cm], inc 4 sts evenly across last WS row.** (33 sts)
Change to larger needles and proceed as follows:
Row 1 (RS): K3, p14, k16.
Row 2: P16, k1, *p3tog, (k1, p1, k1) all in next st, rep from * twice more, k1, p3.
Row 3: As Row 1.

Shape Thumb Gusset

Row 1 (RS): Pat across 18 sts, kfb in each of next 2 sts, knit to end of row.
Row 2 and alt rows: Work even in pat.
Row 3: Pat across 18 sts, kfb in next st, k2, kfb in next st, knit to end of row.
Row 5: Pat across 18 sts, kfb in next st, k4, kfb in next st, knit to end of row.
