When searching for souvenirs at the beach, it’s impossible not to get excited when you spot a seashell with that perfect pink shade. This cute top brings that feeling to life with its wavy shell edging, so work this up to get in the mood for summer.

Yarn:

Medium weight yarn Classic Elite Yarns Classic Silk (50% Cotton, 30% Silk, 20% Nylon; 135 yards [123 meters]/50 grams): #6912 Pink Sunset (MC), 5 (6, 6, 7) balls; #6771 Ballerina (CC), 2 balls

Needles: US size 6 (4.0 mm)

Work decrease rows as foll:

Left Front

(RS): K to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 – 1 sts dec’d.

(WS): P1, p2tog, p to end of row – 1 sts dec’d.

 

Right Front

(RS): K1, ssk, k to end of row – 1 sts dec’d.

(WS): P to last 3 sts, p2tog tbl, p1 – 1 sts dec’d.

Pattern

Back

With MC, CO 86 (96, 106, 116) sts.

Work even in St st until Back meas 10 (10, 11, 11)” from CO, ending with WS row.

Shape Underarm

BO 8 (10, 12, 14) sts at beg of next 2 rows – 70 (76, 82, 88) sts.

Dec 1 st each end every RS row 4 (5, 5, 6) times – 62 (66, 72, 76) sts.

Work even until Armhole meas 7 (7½, 8, 8½)” above bound-off underarm sts, ending with WS row.

Shape Back Neck and Shoulders

Mark center 22 (24, 26, 28) sts.

Next Row (RS): K to first marker, join second ball of yarn, BO marked sts, k to end of row – 20 (21, 23, 24) sts on each side of neck.

Working on both sides of neck with separate balls of yarn, dec 1 st at each neck edge 3 times, AT THE SAME TIME BO at each arm edge 6 (6, 7, 7) sts twice, then BO last 5 (6, 6, 7) sts.

Left Front

With MC, CO 86 (96, 106, 116) sts.

Purl 1 row.

*Work 3 dec rows as listed in pattern notes, knit 1 row even; rep from * 16 (20, 22, 24) more times.

Keeping side edge even, work until piece meas same as Back to underarm, ending with WS row. 

Shape Underarm

BO 8 (10, 12, 14) sts at beg of row, dec 1 st at arm edge every RS row 4 (5, 5, 6) times.

Cont Front decreases as est, working arm edge straight until 17 (18, 20, 21) sts rem.

Work both edges even until Armhole meas same as Back above bound-off under sts, ending with WS row. 

Shape shoulder

Right Front

Sleeve (make 2)

Working in St st, inc 1 st each end every 4 (4, 6, 6) row 4 (5, 5, 5) times – 66 (72, 76, 82) sts.

Work even until Sleeve meas 5 (5, 6, 6)” from CO, ending with WS row.

Mark each end st for underarm.

Work even for 1½ (2, 2½, 3)” more.

Dec 1 st each end every RS row 4 (5, 5, 6) times – 58 (62, 66, 70) sts.

BO 10 sts at beg of next 4 rows – 18 (22, 26, 30) sts.

BO all sts.

Finishing

Assembly

Block pieces. Sew shoulder seams. Set Sleeves into armholes, matching underarm markers to first bound-off st of body. Sew sleeve and side seams.

Sleeve Edging

Join CC at sleeve seam.

Rnd 1: Sc around lower sleeve edge, keeping work flat (adjust number of sts to have a multiple of 6), join with sl st.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc of previous rnd.

Rnd 3: *Sk 2 sc, 5 dc in next st, sk 2 sc, sl st in next st; rep from * around. Fasten off.

Neck Edging

With RS facing, join CC at bottom st of Right Front.

Row 1: Keeping work flat, sc up Right Front edge, around Back of neck, down Left Front, ending in bottom st (adjust number of sts to have a multiple of 6 + 3 sts).

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc of previous rnd.

Row 3: *Sk 2 sc, 5 dc in next st, sk 2 sc, sl st in next st; rep from * around, ending with sl st in last sc. Fasten off.

Body Edging

Join CC at left side seam.

Rnd 1: Place Right Front over Left Front and pin lower edges together. Keeping work flat, sc across cast-on Back sts, then across Fronts going through both layers to join them (adjust number of sts to have a multiple of 6), join with sl st.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc of previous rnd.

Rnd 3: * Sk 2 sc, 7 dc in next st, sk 2 sc, sl st in next st; rep from * around, ending with sl st in last sc. Fasten off.

Lightly tack Fronts together along front edge. Weave in all ends.
