Indoor Picnic Placemat

Set the perfect picnic table with this lacy placemat. Sitting on the patio with a good book and elegant details will make for the perfect summer setting.

Gauge: 22 sts and 16 rows = 4″ in pattern after wet blocking

Materials

Yarn:

Lace Weight Yarn Knit Picks Curio (100% Cotton; 721 yards [659 meters]/100 grams): #26266 Cornmeal (MC) 1 ball; #26270 Victorian (CC) 1 ball

Needles: US size 3 (3.25 mm): 32″ circular

Notions: 4 stitch markers (1 a different color); tapestry needle

Pattern Notes

The Placemat is worked flat in the MC, the first stitch of every row is slipped knitwise. Once the body of the placemat is complete, stitches are picked up around edge and worked in CC in Garter Stitch in the round. To modify width, adjust cast on stitches (multiple of 11 sts).

Pattern

With MC, CO 79 sts.

Purl 1 row.

Row 1 (RS): Sl1, *k3, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k3; rep from * across to last st, k1.
Row 2 and all WS Row: Sl1, purl across to end of row.
Row 3: Sl1, *k2, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, k2; rep from * across to last st, k1.
Row 5: Sl1, *k1, (k2tog, yo) twice, k1, (yo, ssk) twice, k1; rep from * across to last st, k1.
Row 7: Sl1, *(k2tog, yo) twice, k3, (yo, ssk) twice; rep from * across to last st, k1.
Row 8: Sl1, purl across to end of row.

Rep Rows 1-8, 12 more times or until piece meas desire length, ending with a WS row.

Edging

With CC, knit across row, PM, pick up and knit 3 sts for every 4 rows along side of Placemat, PM, pickup and knit in each sts along CO edge, PM, pick up and knit along other side of Placemat, PM to indicate begin of rnd.

Rnd 1: *K1, kfb, knit across to 2 sts before marker, kfb, k1, sm; rep from * across to end of rnd.
Rnd 2: Purl across rnd.

Rep Rnds 1-2, 3 more times or until desired measurement.

Loosely BO all sts knitwise.

Finishing

Weave in all ends. Block.
