Pattern Notes

Each cozy is worked in the round for up until the base of the handle. It is then worked back and forth for the main part of the mug or coffee pot, then joined in the round again for the brim.

Pattern

Section 1

First, measure the circumference of the mug or coffee pot you are making your cozy for. Round down to the nearest 1 inch. Multiply the number of inches by 6. Check to see if the number you get is divisible by 4. If it is, cast-on that number of sts using smaller DPNs. If it is not, subtract 2, and cast-on that number of sts.

For instance, for a 10¼” circumference mug, CO 60 sts and for an 11¾” circumference coffee pot, CO 64 sts.

Join to work in the rnd, being careful not to twist. PM for start of rnd.

Work 3 rnds in 2×2 Rib.

Next Rnd: Cont in 2×2 Rib, finishing 1 st before end.

Change to larger needles.

Next Rnd: Ssk, removing end of rnd marker, ktbl to last 2 sts, k2tog, turn.

Section 2

The next section is worked in rows back & forth.

Row 1 (WS): Sl1, p to end.
Row 2 (RS): Sl1, k1tbl, *p2, k2tbl; rep from * to end.
Row 3: Sl1, p1, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.
Row 4: Sl1, ktbl to end.
Row 5: Sl1, p to end.
Row 6: Sl1, p1, *k2tbl, p2; rep from * to end.
Row 7: Sl1, k1, *p2, k2; rep from * to end.
Row 8: Rep Row 4.

Rep these last 8 rows until Section 2 meas ½” less than length of mug/coffee pot handle, finishing on either Row 4 or Row 8.

CO 2 sts using backwards loop method.

Section 3
