Love This Lacy Cowl

Knit this wonderfully simple lace stitch cowl for that extra little something this summer. The sparkle in the yarn gives it added dimension that lets you shine any time of the day.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 58″ (147.5 cm) around and 10″ (25.5 cm) tall

Gauge: 16 sts = 4″ (10 cm); 21 rounds = 4″ (10 cm) in lace patterns

Materials

Yarn:

Medium Weight Yarn Red Heart Sparkle Soft (99% acrylic, 1% metallic; 208 yards [190 meters]/113 grams): #9001 White (2 balls)

Needles: US size 8 (5.0 mm) 29″ circular needle

Notions: Stitch marker, yarn needle

Special Stitches

Ssk: Slip next 2 stitches, one at a time as if to knit, to right needle, insert point of left needle through front of sts, knit these sts together through back loop.

Pattern Notes

Cowl is worked in rounds in three sections of lace, including two Zigzag Eyelet Trellis pattern sections and a center Gull Wing Pattern section. The lace sections are separated by rounds of Garter stitch (knit 1 round, purl 1 round).

Cowl can be worked by following the written instructions or reading the chart. Read all rows of chart from right to left.

Pattern

Cast on 231 sts. Place marker for beginning of round. Taking care not to twist stitches, prepare to work in rounds.

Garter Stitch Border

Rnd 1: Purl.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Rnd 3: Purl.

First Zigzag Eyelet Trellis Pattern Section

Rnd 1: *K1, yo, k2tog; repeat from * around.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Rnds 3–6: Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 twice.
Rnd 7: *K1, ssk, yo; repeat from * around.
Rnd 8: Knit.
Rnds 9 and 10: Repeat Rounds 7 and 8.
Rnd 11: Repeat Round 7.

First Divider

Rnd 1: Knit.
Rnd 2: Purl.
Rnds 3 and 4: Repeat Rounds 1 and 2.
Rnd 5: Knit.

Gull Wings Pattern Section

Rnds 1 and 2: Knit.
Rnd 3: *K1, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k1; repeat from * around.
Rnd 4: Knit.
Rnd 5: *K2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk; repeat from * around.
Rnds 6–21: Repeat Rounds 2–5­ four more times.
Rnds 22 and 23: Knit.

Repeat First Divider.

Second Zigzag Eyelet Trellis Pattern Section

Repeat First Zigzag Eyelet Trellis Pattern Section.

Garter Stitch Border

Rnd 1: Purl.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Rnd 3: Purl.

Bind off.
