August 2014: Table of Contents

A Note from the Editor

I’ve never been a big fan of the heat, but it hasn’t stopped me from enjoying summer. I remember months spent swimming with my cousins. We’d swim and swim, faster and faster, until our legs ached and bellies growled. After we wore ourselves out, we’d enjoy a fresh summer picnic made by my mother. Food never tasted quite as delicious as it did after a swim. It didn’t just taste good, it rejuvenated me. I can still feel the cool, juicy fruit spilling down my chin as my cousins and I ate Watermelon under the hot sun.

As an adult, I don’t really like swimming, but I do think fondly of the hours my cousins and I spent together, making memories and forming friendships that would last a lifetime. That’s what summer means to me. It’s about the memories. It’s about the people. It’s about connecting. Just like the delicate stitches work together to create the After the Rainfall Shawl, I think of our lives as strands of yarn, crossing each other’s paths as we get together or run into one another by circumstance, popping in and out of each other’s lives — until, in the end, we form a unique pattern all of our own.

With that in mind, we selected only the best light and airy projects for this special summer issue. From the delicate Blue Crush Tank Top to the cozy, yet airy Cloud Cardigan, each one of the projects in this summer friendly issue is ready to be a part of your summer memories—you just have to make them!

Happy knitting,
