Brenda Castiel

brenda-castiel

Brenda Castiel has been knitting on and off since she was in her teens but became somewhat obsessed with it in 2007. She loves squishy wools for the short, mild Los Angeles winters, and likes cottons and blends for the rest of the year. Brenda firmly believes that even beginner knitters can create something beautiful and useful, so she strives to keep patterns simple yet original.

See http:www.ravelry.com/designers/brenda-castiel for additional designs.

You are invited to join her Ravelry Group at http://www.ravelry.com/groups/brenda-castiel-designs for contests, knit-a-longs, and fun.

She blogs about knitting and life at: http:knitandtravelandsuch.blogspot.com.

She has sold her designs to Interweave Knits, Vogue Knitting, Creative Knitting, Classic Elite Yarns, Knit Picks, Knit Now, I Like Knitting, and Three Irish Girls Yarns.

You Knit; You Learn

I taught myself to knit as a teenager, and having no one around me to show me the ropes meant I had to figure things out for myself. There are a few things I’ve learned along the way that I wish I had known earlier since they would have saved me a lot of time

Houndstooth Boulevard Bag

This stylish bag showcases a classic houndstooth check with a pop of color and features an oversized decorative button. While red is a traditional accent, think about using lime green or bright acid yellow for a new twist.

Coral Sands Shawl

This cozy, wearable, V-shaped wrap is the perfect shape for wrapping around yourself and is easier than crescents or half-circle shapes. The design starts with a lace edging for the lower and side edges and then decreases are used to create the angles that make the shape. Lacy stripes of different textures will show off a pretty yarn.

Ocean Spray Shawl

Ocean Spray is a long triangular shawlette or scarf that is just the right length to wrap around the neck once. Garter stitch is knit to a looser gauge to create a soft cushy fabric that drapes nicely, and the lacy edge provides interest and charm. This shawlette is perfect to wear underneath a coat or as an accent piece in warmer weather.

English Countryside Pillow

This pillow will fit every décor – just customize your colors! It uses an easy stylized version of a traditional argyle stitch as an accent. An applied i-cord is used to neatly finish off the edges, and the whole thing is closed with two decorative buttons.
